GHIC — Free & Reduced Healthcare Abroad Guide

The UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) replaced EHIC in 2021. Free NHS-issued card for state healthcare in EU at local rates.

What It Covers

Emergency treatment, pre-existing conditions, routine maternity care, dialysis, oxygen. Does NOT cover: private healthcare, mountain rescue, repatriation to UK, planned treatment abroad.

How to Apply

FREE at nhs.uk/ghic. Takes 10 minutes. Card arrives within 15 working days. Beware scam sites charging £20-50 — the official NHS application is free.

GHIC is NOT travel insurance. Always get comprehensive travel insurance alongside it.
